In the past 10 months over 22 million people have lost their jobs.  According to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, 82% of those lost jobs since February are in the service industry.  We start the new year – 2021,with high hopes for a return of travel, especially corporate and group travel, to help in our recovery of business for over 58,000 hotels, and over 1,000,000 restaurants.  However, Forbes reported almost 65% of those 58,000 hotels and 66% of those million restaurants are on track to shut down without government help or an improvement in business. And, we ended 2020 with a November  -58.6 % yoy REVPAR with the STR report on  forecast for October EBITDA – earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization at less than $1 per room.    Obviously, no business can obviously continue for long with those financial forecasts.

Are you lucky enough to have been recalled or kept your job, but now you need to find new customers, manage with less staff, and implement safely and health protocols with the efficiency of a health expert to help with recovery? Or did you unfortunately find yourself furloughed or suddenly unemployed? Last year was a life changing year for all of us in many different ways. We all need to understand and adjust, and then re-adjust to whatever is going to be normal or the new normal in 2021.   This requires a new strategy – both personally and professionally.

  • Thrive in a changing environment
  • Embrace or even lead a changing mindset
  • Think more seriously and plan upskilling for yourself and your team
